Available Positions
Journeyman plumbers perform basic plumbing installations or repairs, such as replacing faucets or installing water lines. They are entry-level workers who have recently completed an apprenticeship program and have obtained licensure but are not certified as master plumbers, under whom they typically work until they have achieved this designation. Journeyman plumbers display strong eye-hand coordination; the physical ability to crawl, crouch, and kneel for long periods of time; and effective customer service skills. They work on both residential and commercial plumbing systems. This is usually a full-time position and, depending on the employer, can offer health benefits, vacation time, and retirement plans. Journeyman plumbers might sometimes work evenings and weekends based on workload and emergency situations.
Journeyman Plumber Duties and Responsibilities
While a journeyman plumber’s day-to-day duties and responsibilities are determined by where they work, there are many core tasks associated with the role. Based on our analysis of job listings, these include:
Install Water Lines
Journeyman plumbers run copper, steel, and plastic PVC water pipes for sewer lines, drainage systems, HVAC systems, and other plumbing systems. They cut and thread lines, use compounds to seal connections, connect valves, and solder pipes as needed. When necessary, journeyman plumbers must bend pipes to fit specific angles using a pipe-bending machine.
Replace and Repair Plumbing Fixtures and Appliances
From kitchen and bathroom sink faucets to showerheads, journeyman plumbers are responsible for repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures. They replace washers and rubber gaskets in faucets and showerheads or replace entire fixtures. Journeyman plumbers also install and repair garbage disposals, water softeners, water heaters, and dishwashers.
Troubleshoot Plumbing Problems
Journeyman plumbers use various methods to detect leaks, determine problems with disposals or dishwashers, and read pressure gauges to measure accurate water pressure. They determine which parts need to be replaced, write up estimates, and discuss repairs and costs with home and business owners.
Perform Maintenance on Plumbing Systems
Journeyman plumbers regularly check systems to ensure proper operations. They inspect toilets, sinks, dishwashers, and other appliances for leaks, replace worn gaskets and O-rings, unclog drains, monitor systems for pressure loss, and adjust water pressure as needed.
Journeyman Plumber Skills and Qualifications

- Coordination – journeyman plumbers must have the dexterity and eye-hand coordination to handle and install small washers, nuts, O-rings, and gaskets
- Blueprint reading – when involved in new home or building installations, journeyman plumbers must be able to read drawings, schematics, and blueprints to ensure proper installation of new lines and pipes
- Troubleshooting – understanding how to check for leaks and determine what needs to be repaired or replaced to keep plumbing systems operational is a must for journeyman plumbers

Job Description
The Plumber Apprentice will work under direct supervision of Lead Plumber, Apprentice will assist in the installation of plumbing in multi and single family new construction or commercial renovation or new construction. Installations will be up to code and B And C rigid quality standards. Reports to the assigned job site on time and ready to work. Master Plumber/Journeyman Plumber
Required Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license and clean MVR.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be drug-free and able to pass new hire and random drug screenings.
- Demonstrate willingness to invest in tools used in the installation of Plumbing and Gas Piping.
- Demonstrate willingness to invest time training to advance position.
- Demonstrate commitment to developing customer service and communication skills
- Register with State of Minnesota DOL as Apprentice Plumber
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions as given
- Ability to follow Safety Guidelines: o Safely work with heights and in tight working conditions from extension and step ladders and lifts. o Ability to operate power and hand tools safely. o Ability to use safe lifting procedures o Ability to use full range of body motion: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, bending and twisting. Digging and Trenching with a shovel. Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly Duties:
- Purchase required tools as listed for Plumbing and Gas Pipe Installation • Arrive at job site at scheduled time and location as dispatched
- Operate company vehicle as needed • Follow instructions from Supervisor and Lead Installer and carry out in timely manner
- Report problems with company tools or vehicle promptly
- Maintain professional appearance and attitude at all times
- Must be supervised at all times
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
- Unload truck supplies and equipment
- Participate in quarterly inventory.
- Attend and participate in employee meetings, trainings.
- Develop customer service, communication and team-work skills with Contractor Representatives, Supervisors, Co-Workers and other Sub-Contractors on job sites.

BC Plumbing, Heating & Air is seeking a skilled and experienced Commercial HVAC Foreman to lead commercial installation projects across southeast Minnesota. This hands-on role involves coordinating field teams, managing timelines, and ensuring high standards of workmanship and safety compliance on all commercial HVAC systems. You will act as a key liaison between project managers, contractors, and field technicians to deliver exceptional results that match our company’s reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Supervise and coordinate HVAC crews during the installation and commissioning of commercial systems (rooftop units, ductwork, VAVs, VRF systems, exhaust systems, etc.)
- Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications to ensure installations meet project requirements and building codes
- Conduct layout planning and on-site system routing
- Ensure project deadlines are met and materials/tools are staged ahead of schedule
- Maintain a daily job log, update progress, and report any delays or issues to management
Quality Control & Safety
- Uphold B&C quality standards and ensure all work meets local, state, and federal codes
- Enforce safety protocols across job sites; ensure team compliance with PPE and OSHA requirements
- Conduct routine job site inspections and resolve technical or installation issues promptly
- Mentor and train apprentices and junior technicians on best practices, safety, and technical procedures
Communication & Client Coordination
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for general contractors, project managers, and inspectors
- Communicate job status, material needs, and manpower scheduling with the office and warehouse teams
- Document changes in the scope of work and submit RFIs or change orders as needed
- Foster strong relationships with clients through professionalism and clear communication
Requirements
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC installation experience, including 2+ years in a supervisory or lead role
- Valid driver’s license with a clean MVR
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
Technical Skills
- Proficient in reading mechanical plans and coordinating with other trades
- Skilled in installation and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, ductwork fabrication, sheet metal fitting, and equipment start-up
- Strong understanding of building and mechanical codes
- Ability to operate lifts, forklifts, and other heavy equipment safely
